Abstract Molecular imaging such as PET, MRI and SPECT is now used as a standard of patient care. In today’s radiation oncology department, physicians develop cancer treatment plans and assess response to therapy using molecular imaging. Integration of multi-modality imaging using image registration and anatomical segmentation methods are important for maintaining efficiency in busy departments as well as improving the quality of patient treatments. In addition, daily volumetric imaging of the patient during therapy is routinely used for image-guided radiation therapy. This seminar will present the image-guided treatment planning, delivery and response assessment tools used in today’s radiation oncology department as well as a glimpse into the future of adaptive radiation therapy. The image registration, contouring and assessment tools will be presented along with representative patient case scenarios to provide the audience with an overview of clinical practice. Research ideas from Emory’s Radiation Oncology department will also be presented in regards to multi-modality imaging. |
