Abstract

This talk will review the evolution of radiation therapy over the last 20 years and discuss some of the newer advances in the field. Topics include a discussion of some of the more advanced planning techniques such as IMRT and VMAT as well as advances in imaging that make this possible. Additionally stereotactic radiotherapy and HDR brachytherapy techniques will be reviewed followed by a brief discussion of particle therapy.


Biography

Muffin Sewell is the Director of Clinical Technology Programs at Vantage Oncology. She received her Master's degree in Health Physics from Georgia Tech and has over twenty years of experience in clinical radiation therapy physics. Muffin started her career as a physicist at Radiation Care Inc. and has also worked at St. Joseph's hospital in Atlanta, Coliseum Radiation Oncology in Macon and Central Georgia Radiation Oncology in Macon. For the past ten years, Muffin has worked in the Atlanta area with Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia and was responsible for starting up the stereotactic program at their Snellville facility. Muffin has worked on a variety of projects for Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia and Vantage Oncology including creating a statistical method for determining appropriate tolerance table limits and collecting data, generating kernel and commissioning multiple site s for EPID based in vivo transit dosimetry.
