Abstract This talk will be a high level overview of intellectual property IP law in the United States namely, a 101 of the four categories of IP patents, copyrights, trademarks and trade secrets. I will discuss in general why these areas of legal protection are important in our society, and in particular, the sort of things students in science technology should keep in mind as they move forward in research or business in the future. In addition, I will briefly touch on where IP protection fits in the context of the Georgia Tech research enterprise, including with respect to sponsored research funding and technology licensing commercialization. |
