Abstract

Mr. Villarreal will start his presentation with a background on B&W’s nuclear heritage and supply chain capabilities. The main part will be devoted to B&W mPower, providing an overview of the project and design, and describing specific applications and configurations. Development and licensing schedule will be discussed as well. The seminar will end with Q&As.


Biography

Juan F. Villarreal joined Babcock & Wilcox Nuclear Energy (B&W NE) in 2009 as the Director of Commercial Operations and Marketing for B&W’s mPower™ modular nuclear reactor business. Mr. Villarreal is responsible for developing the commercial strategy and market intelligence for the B&W mPower nuclear power plant. This includes developing the value proposition, economic model, risk management and organizing a Utility Consortium for promoting and developing the B&W mPower reactor. Mr. Villarreal’s professional career began at GE Nuclear Energy as a start up field engineer in the U.S. and Europe. He then spent eight years in Europe working for Carlo Gavazzi, an engineering, procurement and construction firm in Italy managing construction projects for nuclear and geothermal plants. Mr. Villarreal was recruited back to GE Nuclear to join the services business as the Nuclear Service Manager for the Leibstadt Nuclear Plant in Switzerland. His next move took him to Latin America when he was tapped by GE Energy to be the Mexico Region Sales General Manager for new gas/steam turbines. Jumping on GE’s new quality initiative program, Six Sigma, he was named Regional Latin America Master Black Belt, (Six Sigma certified) where he trained over 100 sales and field engineers. Following this assignment, he moved to a P&L leadership role as the GM for Operations and Maintenance for Latin America. Based in Miami, Mr. Villarreal managed a $400 million portfolio of long-term agreements for major utilities and Oil & Gas customers. Mr. Villarreal moved to GE Energy headquarters in 2004 to join the GE Energy Leadership team in Atlanta as the Global Marketing and Commercial Leader for Multi-Vendor Services. As the Marketing and Sales Leader for GE Sensing and Inspection – a young business made up of several high technology acquisitions – Mr. Villarreal drove the penetration of the product line within GE industrial businesses. Mr. Villarreal holds a Bachelor in Nuclear Engineering from Kansas State University and a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from University of California, Berkeley. He is also a member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Nuclear Society.
