Abstract

Image guided radiation therapy (IGRT) is a new technology that improves treatment accuracy and outcome by taking into account anatomical changes occuring during the course of radiation therapy. In this approach, repeated imaging at different time points during treatment visualize anatomical changes and deformable registration algorithms are used as a key piece of technology to track and quantify the information within the images, with major applications in (a) segmentation/contour propagation (b) treatment monitoring and dose accumulation (c) re-planning and (d) treatment assessment. Along with an introduction to the IGRT concepts, the seminar will focus on presenting different deformable registration solutions that are enabling advanced clinical applications.

Biography

Dr. Eduard Schreibmann is currently Assitant Proffesor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Emory University. He received his MS and Ph.D. in Medical Physics from University of Patras, Greece and spent three years as a Post Doc at Stanford University before joining Emory University in 2006. In addition to the publication of more than 25 papers in journals or conferences, he has been serving the scientific community as guest editor and reviewer of journals and conferences. His clinical interest lies in deformable image registration and their clinical applied in IGRT.
