Abstract

Career paths for nuclear engineers take many directions. After earning his B.S. and M.S. in nuclear engineering, Mr. Falconer started his career with traditional engineering jobs at E. I. Du Pont De Nemours Company at the Savannah River Laboratory and the Nuclear Regulator Commission (NRC). He then transitioned to entrepreneurial ventures including the founding and development of multiple companies. In this seminar, Mr. Falconer will discuss his career and the lessons he learned.


Biography

Mr. Falconer is co-founder and Managing Member of ScanTech Holdings LLC. ScanTech Holdings is an electron beam and X-ray technology holdings company and is a 2007 graduate of Georgia Techs Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC), one of the nations largest technology incubators. Within ScanTech Holdings, Mr. Falconer is responsible for all corporate operations, M&A and venture investment activity and has led the company to numerous local and national awards including the Best New Emerging Homeland Technology Company, the Top Ten Most Innovative Technology Company in Georgia, Finalist for Georgias International Deal of the Year and Runner-up at the Global Security Challenge. Mr. Falconer has also played key roles in securing investment capital to fund technology acquisition, start-up and product development activities. His successes include securing $25M of private equity investment to successfully spin-off the Companys security business, ScanTech Identification Beam Systems, LLC (www.scantechibs.com) and securing over $70M in equity capital to spinoff the Companys food safety business, Reveam, Inc. (www.reveam.com). Mr. Falconer currently serves as ScanTech Identification Beam Systems founding President and Chief Executive Officer where he is responsible for commercializing the Companys proprietary scanning technology and preparing ScanTech Identification Beam Systems for growth including final qualification of its advanced Fixed-Gantry Computed Tomography (CT) scanning systems, international expansion of its marketing and business development operations and vertical integration of its manufacturing, installation and servicing capabilities. Mr. Falconer is currently Reveams Chairman of the Board and a senior technical advisor to the companys Chief Technology Officer. Mr. Falconer is an alumnus of the Georgia Institute of Technology, B.S. Nuclear Engineering (78) and M.S. Nuclear Engineering (79). He is a National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science (GEM) fellowship recipient and a 2001 inductee into the Georgia Tech School of Engineerings Academy of Distinguished Alumni.
