Abstract The Varian ProBeam systems currently treat approximately 650 patients per day worldwide across 32 locations, with many more locations opening in the near future. We will go on a journey to see how protons are used to treat so many cancer patients on a daily basis. From their start in the cyclotron, the protons are accelerated to around two-thirds the speed of light. They then travel through the beamline into the treatment room. Once the proton exits the beamline the system must ensure that the correct dose, within 0.5%, is being delivered to the correct location, within 0.5 millimeters, for all field deliveries. See how a building sized cancer treatment system is helping shape the future of the medical field. |

Biography I have been working for Varian Medical Systems for about 4 years now. However, I started my path in the seats you are sitting in right now. In the spring of 2018, I was offered a Service Engineering Internship at the Emory Proton Therapy Center during the instillation and commissioning phase. Following my internship, I was hired on as a full-time engineer for the site’s clinical activities in the Fall of 2018. I was in this position for about 2.5 years before moving on to my current position in May 2021 where I am the Proton FLASH Enablement Lead. |
