Abstract

The development of an objective measurement system to assist in the prescription of wheelchair seating to severely disabled children with Cerebral Palsy at the University of Leeds, UK.

The talk will cover the methods used to involve stakeholders in the specification development process for health care products, clinical trials (and tribulations) and the integration/development of surface topography technology. The speaker will also discuss how the study results have been used in Queensland University of Technology, Australia to progress scoliosis research using patient specific finite element modeling techniques.

Biography

Carwyn Jones completed his Ph.D. at Leeds University in 2011 in the Institute of Engineering Systems and Design in the School of Mechanical Engineering. His doctoral dissertation, entitled “The development of an objective measurement system to aid in the prescription of seating to non-ambulant children with cerebral palsy at risk of scoliosis” is the basis of his seminar. Dr. Jones studied at Georgia Tech as a visiting undergraduate student, conducting research on haptics in the Intelligent Machine Dynamics Laboratory under Professor Wayne Book.
