SUMMARY

Radiation therapy is a common treatment option for cancer patients. The increasing complexity of radiotherapy treatment modalities has amplified interest in improving treatment planning algorithms. A coarse mesh transport method has been developed at the Georgia Institute of Technology that shows considerable promise as a dose calculation algorithm with clinical applications. Before it can be tested on realistic clinical plans it must have a radiation source that closely models the physical properties of a linear accelerator.
