SUMMARY
https://bluejeans.com/6266284012Vehicles brakes generate a significant amount of heat. Vehicles are designed so that while driving the air stream can carry away the heat generated by brakes. However, overheating becomes an issue as vehicle components become smaller, thinner, and lighter. To make the wheels lighter, new technologies are considered such as thermoplastic composite materials that are very sensitive to the elevated temperatures. In this study we will create a simplified wheel-brakes model and perform CFD and thermal analyses to estimate how much heat is transferred to the wheels from the brakes through convection and radiation. The incoming air stream velocity, brake disc temperature, and the brake disc design will be varied to gain an understanding of how these features affect the heat transfer transport between the brake disc and the wheel.
