SUMMARY

The United States Armed Forces have recently begun developing newer, more accurate tactical detectors for use on the battlefield. The vehicles into which these devices will ultimately be installed are heavily armored and provide such effective shielding that operators and detectors inside of these vehicles may not be able to accurately assess the radiological environment outside of the vehicle without the use of detector-internal attenuation factor to translate the received signal into a real-time dose rate. The M2/M3 Bradley Fighting Vehicle's gamma ray attenuation characteristics will be resolved through the use of experimentation and modeling to determine such an attenuation factor.
